HA NOI — School principals from around the nation will attend training
programmes to improve their leadership skills and information technology (IT)
capacity over the next two years.
The plan to reach 15,000 teachers was revealed in Ha Noi yesterday by Deputy
Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Thien Nhan at a
meeting to kick off the 2009-10 workplan for the ongoing Support to the
Renovation of Education Management (SREM) project.
The training programme would be conducted in association with the Education
Institute of Singapore, Nhan said.
While praising project achievements made to the country’s education management
last year, the Deputy Minister also urged national education managers to
continue making improvements in other areas.
In reference of an aim to bring wide application of IT into school management
nationwide, he said that training software programmes still need to be completed.
He also said the project’s criteria for school capacity assessment needs to be
better adapted to the Vietnamese context.
Current activities from a Ministry of Education and Training’s initiative called
"Friendly Schools, Active Students" should be included in the criteria, Nhan said.
Around the country, 1,810 schools have taken part in the initiative by signing
up to be the caretakers of 3,000 national relics.
Nhan thanked the European Commission (EC), the SREM sponsor, for their aid to
the country’s education sector.
Both Nhan and the EC representative agreed that the project met a majority of
its targets last year, particularly in the development of education (EMIS) and
human resources (PMIS) statistics and in the creation of criteria for the
quality education manager assessment.
The EC pledged to continue aiding education in Viet Nam.
The SREM project, to be implemented between 2006-10, is valued at 14.2 million
euros. — VNS
