Vocational Training to be Stepped Up

The General Department for Vocational Training held a conference in Hanoi on October 4 to improve the quality and efficiency of vocational training centres across the country.
The government previously asked the General Department to raise the ratio of trained labourers to 50 percent by 2010 and 70 percent by 2015, provide vocational skills to one million rural labourers by 2009, and implement a project to assist young people in learning these skills in 2009-2015.
Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan requested all sectors to establish their own training programmes by 2009. The national vocational training system will also be expanded and upgraded in the near future.
A National Steering Committee on Vocational Training has started operations to coordinate human resources for socio-economic sectors. It will launch a website in November to inform people and citizens of vocational training plans, trends and demands nationwide.
