NGO Resource Centre News - November 15-30

First off this week, we would like to inform you about a number of preparations for the Consultative Group (CG) Meeting, which will be held on December 6-7, 2007. On November 6, a meeting was held at the NGO RC to begin preparing the NGO Statement. At the meeting, it was agreed that the following issues should be included in the statement: Social impacts and vulnerable groups; Disability rights; Special needs education; Climate change; Offtrack MDGs: Environment and HIV AIDS; Legal reform; Capacity building at sub-national level; Aid effectiveness & Role of CSOs. The statement is now in process of being drafted.

The next step is to organise a meeting for I/NGOs to discuss the draft statement and input for the CG meeting in general. This meeting will take place at the NGO RC from 3 to 5 pm, Friday November 30. The statement will be sent out prior to the meeting for comments. For more information on the CG meeting, the NGO statement etc. please visit the following link: http://www.ngocentre.org.vn/node/73

We would also like to inform all organisations of the possibility to display publications at the CG meeting venue, which the NGO RC will coordinate with the World Bank. We would very much encourage I/NGOs to take this opportunity to make publications available, such as case studies, community consultations, field studies, project reports etc. Please email [email protected] if you are interested.

In response to the call for nominations for representatives to the HIV Policy and Programme Coordination Committee (HPPCC), three INGOs and one foundation have nominated representatives. As the number of nominees is equivalent to the number of available positions, no election in necessary. Therefore, the NGO RC would like to confirm the nomination of the three following INGO and one foundation representative for the HPPCC:

  • Diana Measham, Country Representative / PACT
  • Peter Barnard, Country Representative/ General Coordinator / Medecins du Monde Vietnam
  • Stephen Mills, Country Director / Family Health International, Vietnam
  • Susan Wood, Program Officer, Sexuality and Reproductive Health, The Ford Foundation Office for Vietnam and Thailand
