WB to Help Vietnam in Transport Development, Drainage Planning: Director

The World Bank (WB) would provide further help to Vietnam in general and Hanoi in particular in public transport development and drainage planning by 2030 with a vision to 2050, said WB Country Director in Vietnam Ousmane Dione. Mr. Dione made the statement at a meeting with Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chung on March 12. The WB has mobilized $550,000 to provide technical support to Hanoi to improve the city’s public transport system, Mr. Dione said, adding that a WB group would have a working session with representatives of Hanoi on this issue soon. Mr. Dione added that the WB would support Hanoi in upgrading rivers, lakes, and canals, devising anti-flooding schemes, and improving the drainage system. In reply, Mr. Chung said that Hanoi upgraded and dredged 83 out of 124 lakes in 2017 and has partnered with German companies in handling water pollution. He called for the WB’s financial support in treating wastewater in major rivers in the locality. (Bnews, Bao Tin Tuc - News, Ha Noi Moi – New Hanoi, Kinh Te Do Thi – Urban Economy Mar 12)
