Vietnam Sets up 1st Int’l Medical University Costing $20M Funded by Japan

Authorities in Vietnam’s northern province of Hung Yen today [Dec 3] announced the decision of Prime Minister on the establishment of Tokyo Medical University Vietnam, state media reported. The university, which will be located in Hung Yen, would cost roughly VND421 billion ($19.82 million), with funding coming from Japan’s Waseda Health Sciences Education Corporation and a number of Japanese individuals and organization. The Tokyo Medical University Vietnam will run four-year degree programs and three-year associate’s degree courses in such majors as rehabilitation nursing, physical therapy, orthotics and prosthetics, and medical testing. The school will do scientific research closely connected to medical technology application and provide educational services as well. The construction of this project has been underway since early 2015 and is expected to finish in March 2016. After that, the school will be put into operation in June. The Tokyo Medical University Vietnam will train 1,200 students per year. (baodautu.vn Dec 3)
