Vietnam Reinforces Actions against Climate Change

The work policy regarding the assistance to the confrontation of climate change is currently among the objectives of Vietnam’s the socio-economic development plan for the 2016-2020 period, according to official statistics. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung approved the framework that will govern such actions in 2016, including raising standards of energy efficiency, like those of domestic refrigerators, and the implementation of mechanisms to develop solar energy. The list also includes the design of educational documents on those subjects in primary schools and the application of criteria to control vehicular emissions in provinces and cities. The head of government urged the ministries and agencies related to these tasks to direct the competent bodies in charge to prepare budget plans to ensure the realization of the 2016 Policy Framework. All projects under discussion for approval of the 2016-2020 contents are based on the National Political Agenda for the transition period and the 2011-2020 Socio-Economic Strategy adopted by the 11th Congress of the Communist Party, as well as other resolutions of that organization and the Decree by the Prime Minister about this matter.
