Vietnam Central Province Focuses on Caring for AO Victims

Over the past years, the Quang Binh provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange (AO) has exerted great efforts in calling on support for AO victims; notably the building of the fund for the victims worth nearly VND18 billion. Since 2009, the fund has been used to build and repair 51 houses worth over VND2.3 billion for the victims; grant 180 scholarships worth nearly VND407 million; assist victims’ production with VND388 million; provide 145 wheelchairs worth VND240 million and give thousands of presents and healthcare assistance for hundreds of victims. The provincial Association of Victims of Agent Orange has also built day boarding centers worth over VND6.5 billion in Dong Hoi city and Quang Trach district. In addition, the association has continued its calling on support for the construction of detoxification houses, in an attempt to mitigate the victims’ difficulties, as well as their physical pain. Over 10,000 people in the province have been exposed to the toxic chemicals with nearly 7,000 victims receiving an allowance for revolutionary contributors. (Dangcongsan.vn Nov 21)
