Russia, Japan Join Hands To Support Vietnamese Flood Victims

The Russian and Japanese governments have sent their donations to Vietnamese victims in the south-central region hit by storm Damrey, aiming to help them cope with its consequences, state media reported. Russian President Vladimir Putin on November 7 directed providing emergency aid worth $5 million, which was carried to the central province of Khanh Hoa to help storm-hit residents in south-central region. Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang has sent a letter to thank his Russian counterpart and his government for their prompt and valuable aid to the country. Meanwhile, the Japanese government, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), donated 105 water filtering systems to storm-hit residents in south-central Vietnam. Storm Damrey, which is the strongest one in 20 years, has killed 106, injured 197, and left 25 others missing. Floods following heavy rains triggered by Damrey also destroyed more than 1,480 houses, damaged 119,200 others, along with inundating nearly 8,000 hectares of rice and 14,600 hectares of other crops while devastating some 24,950 aquatic cages in the affected areas.
