Local NGO Proposes Seizing 11 Tigers from Household in Central Vietnam

Education for Nature-Vietnam (ENV), a local non-government organization specialized in wildlife conservation, has proposed seizing 11 tigers, which are being kept at a  arm in the central province of Thanh Hoa. ENV said that the farm’s license had expired since May 2017 but the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development had yet to take any affirmative actions. Though the local authorities said that they had no legal basis to seize the tigers, ENV said that the farm owner is not qualified for keeping the tigers. In 2007, Mr. Nguyen Mau Chien, owner of the farm, had signed documents claiming the tigers belong to the state. Moreover, Mr. Chien had pleaded guilty to trafficking two bodies of tigers earlier in March 2018. (Vietnam Plus; Thanh Tra; NLD; VOH; Cong An Nghe An Sep 8)
