EC Launches Proj Supporting Ethnic Minority Women in North Vietnam

The European Commission (EC) has just launched a project on reducing gender violence for women of ethnic minorities in the four communes of Dien Bien district in Vietnam’s northern mountainous province of Dien Bien, the Nhan Dan (The People) newspaper reported. The project will be implemented in 2018-2021 by the CARE International in Vietnam, Hanoi-based non-governmental organization LIGHT, and the Dien Bien Center for Community Development (CCD). It is expected to improve the awareness of local residents and authorities on gender violence, help women of ethnic minorities raise their voice on the violence and access support. According to a survey conducted by CARE in July, three-quarters of women in four communes of Muong Phang, Pa Khoang, Thanh Nua, and Hua Thanh have suffered from violence. (NhanDan)
