Dengue Fever Cases in Vietnam’s Hanoi in Yr to Mar 15 Triple Year-on-Year

Vietnam’s capital city of Hanoi recorded 513 cases of dengue fever in the year to March 15, tripling the number compared to the same period in 2023, said the Hanoi Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

In recent weeks, scattered cases of dengue fever continue to be reported in the city, averaging between 17-24 cases per week, the Hanoi CDC noted.

The agency reported that Hanoi had experienced five dengue fever outbreaks since the beginning of the year, all of which have now ended. Among the districts with the highest number of dengue patients are Dong Da with 81 cases, Ha Dong with 58 cases, Hoang Mai with 43 cases, Hai Ba Trung with 32 cases, Bac Tu Liem and Chuong My districts with 29 cases each, and Thanh Xuan district with 25 cases.

Epidemiological investigations indicated that dengue fever typically occurs from August to November, with the peak of the outbreak usually in October or November. However, in recent years, the disease has appeared much earlier, even as early as the beginning of the year.

Health experts attributed the early onset and increase in cases to insufficient disease prevention and control measures in some areas. Additionally, unusual weather conditions, high humidity, and heavy rainfall are favorable factors for mosquito breeding, contributing to the spread of the disease.
