ADB Approves $100M Loan to Improve Road Connecting Vietnam-Myanmar

Asian Development Bank, a regional development with Japan holding the lion’s share, has approved a $100 million loan to improve a road connecting Eindu and Kawkareik in Myanmar and another road in the East-West corridor of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) that would connect Vietnam’s central city of Danang and Myanmar’s Yangon, the Dau Tu (Investment) newspaper reported on Nov 17. The East-West corridor has a combined length of 1,450km, going through Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. This project will be carried out in three years and the road will be open to traffic in September 2019. The improvement of the road in the East-West corridor will improve the connectivity between Vietnam and two economic centers of Myanmar, namely Mawlamyime and Yangon. (baodautu.vn Nov 14)
