250-kg War Bomb Unearthed Safely in Central Vietnam

Soldiers in Nghe An Province have safely removed a 250-kilogram Vietnam War bomb from a local house after it was found by some construction workers. A huge bomb found three meters underground in Nghe An Province March 6. The two-meter bomb was unearthed when an excavator dug around three meters into the ground last Sunday. A local official said the bomb could have destroyed everything within a 300-meter radius. Unexploded ordnance threatens a fifth of Vietnam’s land mass, and officials say explosions occur every day. Deputy Minister of Defense Nguyen Chi Vinh had said last October that the explosions kill more than 1,500 people every year and maim and injure 2,200 more. (http://www.tienphong.vn Mar 9)
