Save Vietnam’s Wildlife is looking a position of Veterinarian

Duration: Permanent position

Expected starting date: As soon as possible.

Salary: To be discussed.

Work place: Save Vietnam’s Wildlife, Cuc Phuong National Park, Nho Quan, Ninh Binh.

Responsibilities of Veterinarian

  • Train CMT staff in their monitoring of the health and behaviour of the captive animals, basic preventative health procedures and identify and develop long-term solutions for veterinarian care for the centre.
  • Maintain the health of all animals held at SVW including preventative health management, treating unwell animals, deal with disease outbreak effectively, minimising animal morbidity and mortality and reducing risks to human health.
  • Responsible for the health of all animals coming into SVW through rescues, coordinating quarantine procedures and rehabilitation of rescued animals.
  • Contribute to the development of husbandry and rescue guidelines for SVW.
  • Conduct post mortem examination of all animals that die at SVW to improve understanding of the normal anatomy, physiology and common pathology of small carnivores and pangolins.
  • Develop and carry out veterinary research relevant to improving the conservation of the focal species
  • Participate in Rapid Response Team to help FPD, Vietnamese zoos, rescue centres in veterinary work for confiscated wildlife from illegal wildlife trade
  • Work with the Captive Management Team to improve husbandry and increase the successes of ex-situ conservation.

Requirements

  • Must be Vietnamese.
  • Bachelor degree in veterinary, veterinary pharmaceuticals with a love of Wildlife.
  • At least 1 year experience in wildlife veterinary.
  • Experience with husbandry management is an advantage
  • Fluency in both English and Vietnamese.
  • Strong skills of science, critical thinking, reading comprehension to approach to problems, identify alternative solutions and conclusions.
  • Good organizational and reporting skills
  • Willingness to undertake frequent travel
