CTCN - UNIDO project: Bio-waste minimization and valorisation for low carbon production in the rice sector - Vietnam

SNV Netherlands Development Organization has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor through agriculture, energy and water, sanitation & hygiene.

SNV was selected by UNIDO and the Climate Technology Center and Network (CTCN) to provide technical assistance to MoNRE on rice husk valorisation optimization. As part of these activities SNV has developed a tool that evaluates various densification technologies (briquetting and pelleting) and paddy drying technology on financial and other aspects. The tool is meant for rice millers and aims to improve their economic performance by maximizing the value they receive for their rice husk resource.

SNV is looking for rice husk densification (briquetting and pelleting) and paddy drying (including rice husk furnace) experts to review the tool in the period 10 to 25 April.

Responsibilities

  • Test the tool on functionality and integrity
  • Assess the information provided in the tool on accuracy and comprehensiveness
  • Assess the technical, financial and impact analysis of the tool – are the outcomes reasonable and complete?
  • Provide input in ways that the tool can be improved
  • Assess the tool on user-friendliness and aesthetics

The candidate ideally has the following profile

  • Extensive experience with densification technologies and/or experience with rice husk furnace technology for paddy drying and paddy drying technology.
  • Ability and expertise to develop and test tools for waste to energy business modelling.

Outputs

  • Structured report using bullet points on issues encountered on running the tool, inaccuracies, comprehensiveness, technical and financial aspects, including the analysis, user-friendliness and aesthetics and suggest for each issue encountered ways to improve it. Key comments should also be mentioned in the excel tool using comment boxes
  • Share any related reports, information and tools that you may have and that can improve the tool
  • Skype call or physical meeting in which the findings are presented and discussed

Duration: 3 days to assess the tool and reporting, 1 day to present the findings.
