Training and Communication Coordinator

ACDI/VOCA is a non-profit international development organization that delivers technical and management assistance in agribusiness, financial services, enterprise development, community development and food security in order to promote broad-based economic growth and vibrant civil society. Based in Washington, D.C., ACDI/VOCA has empowered people in developing and transitional nations to succeed in the global economy for 45 years and in 145 countries. In Vietnam, with funding from the USDA and USAID, the ACDI/VOCA has been implementing the Sustainable Cocoa Enterprise Solutions for Smallholders (SUCCESS Alliance - SA) project. To date, the project has introduced cocoa best agricultural practices to over 22,000 small-holder farmers in 6 provinces in the South and the Central Highlands of Vietnam. We are currently seeking an experienced Vietnamese Training and Communication Coordinator (TCC) for the ACDI/VOCA Vietnam Office. The anticipated start date for this position is September, 2013.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Training & Communication Coordinator (TCC) role entails all project’s field training and communication activities in all provinces that Sustainable Cocoa for Farmer (SCF) and other projects are conducted

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

*Training responsibilities: In this component, the TCC’s responsibilities include following activities:

1- Work with farmers, partners and related ACDI/VOCA staffs to identify training needs and necessary support to improve cocoa technique for stakeholders.
2- Work with Training and Extension Director (TED) to develop detailed training and extension activities with participation of related stakeholders such as cocoa farmers, researchers, partners and ACDI/VOCA staffs.
3- Follow up, coordinate and implement training and extension strategies/activities that are designed by TED to project areas effectively and efficiently.
4- Develop detailed training schedule for each training course with the involvement from project management boards, provincial project coordinators and technical partners.
5- Monitor and evaluate training and extension activities as well as propose improved solutions to improve project’s effectiveness.
6- Review related reports on training and extension activities to identify gaps and propose improved tactics for each related position or activity.  

*Communication responsibilities: In this component, the TCC’s responsibilities include following activities:

1- Coordinate the implementation and monitoring of the existing communication activities to project areas to provide good cocoa practices, cocoa market information and new cocoa technique aiming to contribute to maintain and extend cocoa area, productivity, quality as well as cocoa production’s income.
2- Collect success stories/ good practices from project implementation areas and deliver them to project stakeholders.
3- Propose the project’s new communication strategies and activities to improve effectiveness of transferring project information/achievements to stakeholders, government agencies & donors.
4- Support capacity building of project staff, partners and community members in communication through training, mentoring and supervised practices.
5- Monitor and evaluate communication activities and propose improved solutions.
6- Develop new communication materials that are necessary for project partners and cocoa production communities.

*Further responsibilities:

1- Support specific research and studies to further enhance efficiency and effectiveness of training and communication interventions and document good practices and lessons learnt as well.
2- Participate in other research, assessments related to projects.

Reporting Responsibilities

The TCC will report directly to the Deputy Chief of Party  and will write and/or contribute to project reports as necessary.

DUTY STATION:

Ho Chi Minh City, with frequent travel to project sites (Dak Lak, Lam Dong)

REQUIREMENTS:  

- University degree or master’s degree in related fields such as agriculture and rural development, communication, community development and development studies.
- Minimum of 3 years experience in agricultural development works.
- Knowledge and experience in training and communication areas
- Experience with foreign non-governmental organizations,
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Ability to travel frequently to project sites
- Good skills in development of success stories from project field
- Good computer skills.
- Good teamwork, interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
