Organisation: Woolcock Institute of Medical Research in Vietnam

The Woolcock Institute is a lung health research organization, based at Sydney University, Australia (http://www.woolcock.org.au/). The Institute has operated in Vietnam since 2009, we undertake large and important operational and epidemiological and clinical research projects in collaboration with the National Tuberculosis (TB) Program in 10 Provinces, including Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. The Woolcock also runs training in epidemiological and operational research methods for Vietnamese doctors and public health workers.

Currently, the Woolcock directly employs 60 full-time staff across Vietnam. We are recruiting 2 motivated and experienced Study Assistants to work on the VSMART data system. 

The V-SMART Trial is a randomized controlled trial of mHealth intervention to improve treatment outcomes for patients with MDR-TB. Patients and health workers will be linked using new digital technologies, enabling greater continuity of care and improving patient safety. These technologies will allow local health workers and TB programmes to monitor the management of adverse events, support patient adherence and respond rapidly to adverse events before they cause disability.

The study will be conducted within the National TB Program in 10 Provinces of Vietnam. It builds upon a strong existing collaboration between Australian and Vietnamese investigators. The project will enhance local capacity in Health research, and demonstrate the transformative potential of new technologies for both patients and health systems.

Location: Based in Ha Noi and HCM, with regular travel to other provinces

Duration: 12 months appointment, with consideration for subsequent extension. The position will be on a full-time basis

Roles:

To support the implementation of the V-SMART study in Hanoi, HCM and An Giang. The role includes:

  • Conduct fieldwork
  • Participate in data collection, data entry, and cleaning
  • Support the Study Managers in administrative and financial work
  • Any other additional tasks if required.

Direct report: Study Manager

Key staff working within the study:

  • Data Manager/Officer
  • Study Assistants/other staff in the project sites
  • Staff of the National TB Program
  • Local financial controller and admin officer
  • Technical managers (such as Laboratory staff)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in relevant training on the research protocol, methods and techniques for data collection
  • Work with partners to recruit study participants into the study and get consent from participants to participate in the research
  • Participate in collecting quantitative data as required in the field, ensure that the protocol is strictly followed
  • Support the organization of qualitative study as required
  • Complete data forms accurately and timely
  • Follow up study participants for quarterly telephonic follow-up and audiometry assessment
  • Communicate issues occurred in the field for the Study Manager for solutions
  • Support to maintain good relations with partners in the field and report to the Study Manager any issues if occurred
  • Support the organization in organizing meetings, conferences administratively and financially
  • Support the filing of study documents (both hard and soft copies)
  • Support the development of study correspondence to partners
  • Provide translation of study documents when needed
  • Working closely with the study team
  • To perform other duties if required.

Required education, skills and qualities:

  • Degree in Public Health or health-related field
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative research
  • Experience working with data to improve study outcomes
  • Ability to communicate fluently in Vietnamese.
  • Ability to work within a team
  • A motivator with good listening skills
  • Focused, but flexible approach
  • Willingness to work hard
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
