1. BACKGROUND

Passerelles numériques (PN), a non-profit organisation, is dedicated to enabling the largest number of youths in a precarious situation access to training and qualified employment in Information Technology.

Established in Cambodia, the Philippines and Vietnam, Passerelles numériques currently trains 555 students and aims to train 750 in the next three years. PN employs 96 people based in these three countries including a small team in France.

Passerelles numériques relies on the financial and skills sponsorship of several corporate partners such as Accenture, Econocom-Osiatis, CA Technologies and Microsoft and also receives support from individual donors.

The project in Viet Nam began in 2010 in partnership with East Meets West (EMW) and the Software Development Center (SDC) of Da Nang University. There are currently 87 young people from under-privileged families from the central region of Viet Nam who have joined this program. In September 2014, 60 new students will join our training.

2. JOB DESCRIPTION

Passerelles numériques is looking for two Social Investigators for the training center in Da Nang.

Under the direct supervision of the Selection Officer and in collaboration with the whole selection team, he/she will be required to lead the last step of PN Selection process: the Social investigation. He/she will have to travel in 7 provinces in center Vietnam, mainly by motorbike, to assess the social situation of eligible students’ families.

3. ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead the Social Investigation

  • Support the Selection Team for implementing a social investigation grid with relevant criteria.
  • Prepare all the materials & logistic needed for the Social Investigation trips with the support of the Selection Officer.
  • Conduct social investigation in the families of selected students to define their social situation according to PNV methodology.
  • Explain the “Student Contract” to the family and to the student.
  • Maintain the good relationship with selection partners: Study Promotion Association, High Schools and NGO.

Reporting

  • Do the data inputs for the social investigation trips, ensure that hard files and soft files are updated and filed in a systematic way.

4. SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES

General skills

  • Bachelor degree would be highly appreciated
  • Relevant experience in social work
  • Excellent communication skills / organization skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook...
  • Good level of English (spoken and written office language is English)

Specific skills

  • Good capacity of adaptation
  • Rigorous, demanding and have an analytical mind
  • Confident to handle complex situation during the selection trips
  • Must be dedicated and involved to the project
  • Ready to travel frequently in mountainous areas by motorbike
  • Good socio-economic knowledge of Vietnam will be a plus.
