Senior Project Officer Aquaculture

WWF Vietnam Country Programme is one country component of the WWF Greater Mekong and is the implementing arm for projects in Vietnam mainly in Central Annamites, Southern Annamites and the Mekong Delta. Our major activities focus on Freshwater, Forestry, Marine and Aquaculture, Agriculture and Agroforestry, Policy and Advocacy.

We are currently seeking for an well-qualified and experienced candidate to fill a full-time position of SENIOR PROJECT OFFICER, AQUACULTURE. The position will be based in Hanoi city or Can Tho, Vienam with frequent travel to the project sites.

Main responsibilities:

The Senior Project Officer will provide support to the Program Coordinator, Aquaculture in the planning, management, implementation, monitoring and reporting of WWF-Vietnam’s work in promoting sustainable pangasius development and the move towards ASC certification. He/She will work closely with relevant stakeholders including pangasius producers, local and national government agencies and relevant organizations, to ensure the targets set in the December 2010 Cooperation Agreement will be achieved fully, and on time. The Senior Project Officer, Aquaculture will also be responsible for providing technical support to the Cooperation Agreement partners in the implementation of the December 2010 agreement.

Qualifications and Experience:
o  Bachelor’s degree in aquaculture, aquatic biology and/or relevant fields
o  Additional academic training or a degree in a conservation and natural resources management field would be a strong asset
o  5 years of practical experience as Project Officer, 2 years of which should be in related fields
o  Experience in conducting studies and coordinating research activities
o  Experience of working with Government officials, local communities and/or donors at all levels
o  Proven record in project proposal development, project M&E, and report writing
o  Experience of working INGOs or the United Nations or bilateral development agencies is an advantage
o  Knowledge of conservation and development issues in Mekong Delta in particular and Vietnam in general.
o  Knowledge of the context of Vietnam regarding aquaculture issues, especially pangasius and shrimp farming.
o  Working knowledge of policy/institutional context in related field in Viet Nam
o  Knowledge of the realities of government agencies, development partners, donor institutions, and the not-for-profit sector in the  project
o  Knowledge of WWF structure, priorities and procedures as well as WWF's ecoregional approach to conservation
o  Knowledge of M&E methodology, quality assurance
o  People management, coaching and capacity building/development
o  Presentation, communications, and negotiation
o  Networking, Teamwork, Planning, organisation, time management, facilitation, and coordination
o  Fluency in written and spoken English and local language
o  Proficiency in MS Office
