Senior Advisor Climate Smart Agriculture

SNV Vietnam is looking for a Senior Advisor Climate Smart Agriculture, based in Long An province with some travels to other provinces.

SNV has been working in Vietnam since 1995. Using market based approaches, SNV is committed to reducing poverty by catalyzing environmentally sustainable solutions for the poor in agriculture, energy, water & sanitation, and REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation).

SNV together with Winrock International, the American Red Cross and SRD, will implement the USAID supported Vietnam Forests and Deltas (VFD) Program. The primary purpose of this program is to accelerate Vietnam’s transition to climate resilient, low emissions development through investments in reducing net emissions from forests, and enhancing resiliency of people, places, and livelihoods. The program will primarily invest in provincial and district level demonstration and capacity building, and share lessons learned to inform national policies and implementation. The project will be introduced in close consultation and in support of priorities of the relevant Government of Vietnam ministries and departments at the national and local level.

We are seeking highly qualified national candidate for the position of Senior Advisor Climate Smart Agriculture to join the project team.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with government stakeholders at provincial, district and commune level towards implementation of VFD program
  • Provide technical advice on agricultural models/practices  to address climate change issues, especially in Mekong and Red River Delta areas
  • Provide advice on potential long-term climate change and weather impacts on agriculture/aquaculture crops, and implementation into vulnerability assessments for increasing the resilience to climate change
  • Provide advice on all aspects of agriculture development, including practices such as systems rice intensification (SRI), participatory irrigation management,  and models for addressing impacts of salinity increase, and long-term climate change
  • Assist communities in the identification of business/market opportunities with local partners towards improved value for agricultural products
  • Develop terms of references for the engagement of Local Capacity Builders (LCBs) and consultants for project implementation activities and conduct evaluation of consultants
  • Supervise the LCBs and consultants throughout the implementation of their assignments
  • Provide direct advisory support to partner and client organizations in organizational development and implementation of support to the households, micro and small scale enterprises

Candidate profile

  • Vietnamese National
  • University degree in Agriculture or relevant development field
  • At least seven year experience in implementing or managing field projects    
  • Technical knowledge including value chain analysis, agriculture, irrigation management, sustainable rice production and climate change issues
  • Experience in capacity building and organizational development
  • Knowledge of climate change and low carbon development pathways
  • Experience in working at all levels of stakeholders (provinces, districts, communes...)
  • Understanding and ability to work closely with government counterparts
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills (English and Vietnamese)
  • Good computer skills in MS-applications (Word, Excel, Internet, Email, Power Points)

Contract Duration:

One-year employment contract with possibility of extension
