USAID Saving Species – Recruitment of Research Consultant

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Saving Species Program is USAID/Vietnam’s flagship implementation vehicle for combating wildlife trafficking and implemented by Tetra Tech in partnership with Vietnam CITES Management Authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development. TRAFFIC Vietnam and the Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) are also project partners.

USAID Saving Species is seeking one qualified consultant to support market monitoring and research efforts in Viet Nam. The consultant will work closely with the Research and Data Management Officer, the Data Entry Assistant and the Senior Programme Officer – Wildlife Crime and Sustainable Trade of TRAFFIC-Viet Nam.

Below is the summary of the SOW.

Overall Goal:

To support market monitoring and research efforts in Viet Nam

Main tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Support TRAFFIC-Viet Nam to carry out physical market monitoring to acquire information about wildlife trade
  • Collect and report monitoring data in an organized manner
  • Regularly report on progress of monitoring to TRAFFIC-Viet Nam Senior Programme Officer
  • Collaborate closely with TRAFFIC-Viet Nam Research and Data Management Officer and the Data Entry Assistant
  • Undertake other tasks as relevant
  • Any other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Domestic travel is required

Expected Deliverables:

  • Monitoring data
  • Data analysis
  • Final summary report

Timeline/Working days:

Starting date: 15 October 2018

Ending date: 28 December 2018

Total working time:

  • 25 days part-time
  • 30 days full-time

Qualifications/Criteria:

  • Native Vietnamese speaker with proficiency in verbal and written English
  • Familiarity with conducting market monitoring;
  • Experience in identifying wildlife parts and products;
  • Experience with the collection and collation of data;
  • An eye for detail and a keen interest and ability to recognize and uncover connections between data are a must;
  • Problem solver with critical thinking skills;
  • Well-organized with time management skills;
  • Adept at Excel;
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively as part of a diverse team as well as independently, with respect for and sensitivity to multi-cultural approaches
  • Independent thinker that shows initiative in developing innovative approaches
  • Experience with database software
