Hours of work: Full time

Tenure: One year contract including 2-month probation with a possibility of extension

Background

Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) is based at and working in partnership with the Hospital for Tropical Diseases in Ho Chi Minh City. The core clinical research areas of the Unit are typhoid, dengue, central nervous system infections, malaria, influenza, tuberculosis, and HIV. In addition, the Unit has research groups in bio-statistics and mathematical modelling.

Job summary

The research assistant will work on data and analysis tasks relating to a dengue seroepidemiology study as well as contribute to other ongoing studies in the modelling group.  

Key responsibilities and tasks

  • Duties relating to dengue serology study including microarray slide scan analysis, data cleaning, statistical analysis, modelling and other similar duties.
  • Contribute to methodological projects lead by the mathematical modelling and bio-informatics group

Selection criteria

Qualifications

  • BSc in computer science, computer engineering or information system or BSc in biological or medical sciences with quantitative or programing experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in programming and statistics.

Person specification

  • Programming experience in C++, Java, R or other programming languages.
  • Understanding of Basic Probability and Modelling methods.
  • Understanding of how to process and manage large datasets.
  • Understanding of seroepidemiology and immunology.
  • Strong motivation to apply quantitative analysis and modelling methods in medical research.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, self-initiative, attention to detail.
  • Team player, organized, patient, dedicated, tactful, understanding, disciplined and mature.
  • Keen on self-development.
  • IELTS equivalent 6.5.
