Regional Conservation Director

WWF Greater Mekong – on the ground in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam – is working to conserve the region’s biodiversity and build a secure and sustainable future for people and wildlife.

We are looking for a Regional Conservation Director who will provide effective leadership to deliver conservation programme outcomes in one of the most biodiverse regions of the world. As Conservation Director you will provide strategic direction to some of the most exciting and impactful conservation strategies within WWF’s global conservation portfolio. Working to close down illegal wildlife markets in the Golden Triangle, creating the conditions for reintroducing tigers to the Eastern Plains of Cambodia and Vietnam and supporting conservation efforts in the vast 175,000 sq km Dawna Tenasserim landscape on the Myanmar and Thailand border – this position requires an experienced and driven conservationist.

Base location: Any Mekong country (Laos/Vietnam/Cambodia/Thailand/Myanmar)

Key requirements for the role include:

  • Master’s degree or similar in conservation, natural resources management or in relevant fields
  • Proven track record in delivering conservation strategies with clear impact and outcomes;
  • Thorough understanding of conservation and the institutional context in the Greater Mekong Region
  • At least 10 years of practical experience in leading and managing conservation programmes, 3 years of which should ideally be in the Greater Mekong Region
  • Demonstrated success in managing multi-cultural teams
  • Experience of working and negotiating with donors at all levels, and working with key regional and international institutions
  • Experience in developing and reviewing related project proposals and reports to aid agencies, foundations, corporate sector and other individual donors
  • Experience of media engagement and public speaking;
  • Leadership and people management skills
  • Strategic thinking and decision making
