Project Officer/ Environmental Education and Awareness Raising

The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) was established on 1st January 2011. It brings together under one roof the long-standing expertise of the German Development Service (DED), the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and InWEnt – Capacity Building International, Germany. As a federally owned enterprise, it supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. We are also engaged in international education work around the globe.

For many years, Viet Nam has been a priority partner country for German Development Cooperation. Projects and programmes cover the following three priority areas of cooperation, which are closely interlinked with the overarching goal of Poverty Reduction: 1) Sustainable Economic Development and Vocational Training; 2) Environmental Policy, Natural Resources and Urban Development; and 3) Health.

The GIZ project “Adaptation to Climate Change through the Promotion of Biodiversity in Bac Lieu Province” aims at improving the ecological functionality of coastal forests and the livelihood of people depending on coastal forests. There are five focus areas of work within the project as follows:

1. Coastal Zone Management and Coastal Protection
2. Conservation of Bac Lieu Bird Sanctuary
3. Improvement of Coastal Livelihood
4. Enhancement of Local Capacity
5. Environment Education

GIZ is seeking a qualified and experienced Vietnamese national for the full-time position of:

Project Officer/ Environmental Education and Awareness Raising

Duty station: Bac Lieu Province

Main responsibilities:

- Plan and implement Environmental Awareness Raising activities
- Support the network between teachers and Departments in the fields of Environmental Education and Environmental Awareness Raising
- Support the up scaling of successfully tested Environmental Education and Awareness Raising materials and approaches of Bac Lieu in other Provinces of the Mekong Delta and vice versa.
- Organize and implement monitoring and evaluation activities of all Environmental Education and Awareness Raising activities
- Close cooperation with other project staff, experts and other local and international consultants
- Close cooperation and coordination with relevant Government Departments of Bac Lieu Province
- Support the exchange between GIZ activities in the fields of Environmental Education and Environmental Awareness Raising  and related civil society organizations
- Close cooperation with project staff from other GIZ projects in the Mekong Delta
- Compile and organize information materials in digital and printed form
- Support the cooperation with the School of Education of the Can Tho University in the field of Integrating Education for Sustainable Development
- Interpretation during meetings, field trips and other occasions

Qualifications and skills required

- University degree in English or a university degree in a natural science (e.g. Forestry, Biology, Marine Sciences, Geography) or economic science related subject.
- Profound English and Vietnamese speaking and writing skills
- Can work within a team as well as alone and on own initiative
- Can take over responsibility and follow through
- At least 3 year working experience in Environmental Education and Awareness Raising
- Experience in development cooperation and/or civil society and/or international environment.
