As a federal enterprise, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. The rapid population growth of Asian cities places an increasing strain on natural resources and also bears the risk of supply shortages, particularly with regard to water supply and sanitation as well as energy supply, land use and food security. Asian cities, municipal administrations and utilities as well as national and regional planning units usually do not adequately plan in an inter-sectoral approach. Within the sectors energy, water and food security (agriculture) the nexus approach aims to plan and manage in an integrated manner and in doing so intends to utilise synergy effects and, hence, to contribute to a better resource efficiency. The Nexus approach is embedded in the Global Agendas, in particular the SDGs and the NDCs. The TC measure operates in up to twelve selected Asian cities in seven countries (China, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam) and follows a multi-level approach.

The project is looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the following position:

Project Officer

Duty station: Da Nang City
Duration: June 2018 until July 2019

Main tasks:

• Independent management of Nexus initiatives in Da Nang and Hanoi/Viet Nam according to project goals, team agreements and/or consultations with the supervisor
• Conceptualisation, preparation and implementation of workshops, seminars, and other events on subjects that are related to the program’s/project’s field of activities
• Monitors project progress, reviews reports and documents
• Coordination of meetings
• Maintain continues and strategic contact with partner organizations in Da Nang and Hanoi and communicate back to Project Director
• Elaboration of draft letters in English and translation into Vietnamese
• Establish contact on national level with the National Council for Sustainable Development and Competition and sector ministries such as the Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Environment in order to organize cooperation on the SDGs
• Coordinates and prioritises relevant project activities at the local and national level in cooperation with the partners
• Prepare the budget and related financial documentation, monitoring of budget

Minimum requirements:

• BA or BSc in Business Administration of Engineering
• Good knowledge of English in speaking and writing
• Good knowledge of IT
• Good networking capabilities
• At least 3-5 years working experience in a similar position, preferably with GIZ
