Cat Ba Langur Conservation Project – Project Assistant

The CAT BA LANGUR CONSERVATION PROJECT (CBLCP), a collaboration of Leipzig Zoo (Germany), Münster Zoo (Germany), the Zoological Society for the Conservation of Species and Populations (Germany), and the Peoples’ Committee of Hai Phong was founded in 2000 with the goal of protecting the biodiversity of the Cat Ba Archipelago. A key focus of the project is the conservation of the critically endangered Cat Ba Langur, the flagship species of the region and the most endangered primate in Vietnam.

Project activities are focused on monitoring and protection of the langur population, capacity building for forest protection agencies, promotion of public conservation awareness & environmental education, and providing environmental advice to distric and provincial agencies.

The CBLCP is seeking a Vietnamese national for the position of Project Assistant. The assistant will work under direct supervision of the foreign Project Director and the Vietnamese Assistant Project Director and with CBLCP staff. The employee will work closely with national park rangers and local villagers on Cat Ba.

We are looking for a hard-working person who works well with and is respectful of local people, the park rangers, and the other staff. The position requires excellent language skills in both English and Vietnamese, an enthusiasm for conservation work, a commitment to honesty, and an eagerness to learn.

The employee will live on Cat Ba Island. Housing at the Cat Ba National Park headquarters will be provided by the project and the park.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assistance with project management and administration
  • Participation in field work and forest patrols
  • Translation and interpretation
  • Production of draft reports, plans, budgets
  • Assistance with project education activities
  • Public presentations

Qualifications:

  • Excellent English speaking and comprehension.
  • Good knowledge of MS office software (Word, Excel, Access, etc)
  • University degree and understanding of international projects
  • Good interpersonal communication skills
  • Willing and able to participate in field work under difficult conditions
  • Strong interest in conservation and environmental protection

Remuneration is 500-600 USD/month based upon qualifications, previous work experience and suitability for the position.
