International Advocacy and Policy Manager

INTERNATIONAL ADVOCACY AND POLICY MANAGER
Location:  Bangkok, Johannesburg, Nairobi or London or AA Country
Salary: £45,489 per annum

At ActionAid International we are now looking for an International Advocacy & Policy Manager to ensure we become more effective at campaigning and influencing and are even more successful in overcoming the structural causes of poverty. It’s a challenging role, but one that will develop your expertise as well as give you an incredible experience.

As International Advocacy & Policy Manager you will lead a small team and develop influencing strategies aimed at key regional and international bodies as well as other relevant decision-makers. You will also advance our campaigns by forging alliances with key movements and networks. You will encourage collaboration across the organisation to achieve goals and objectives as well as liaise with colleagues to ensure communication products are relevant, consistent and convince audiences to take action. Working with International Policy Managers you will monitor global multilateral institutions and lobby them on our policy positions and recommendations. In addition you will help Federation members build their advocacy skills and take charge of specific international advocacy projects.

You must have substantive experience of multi-country advocacy and coalition-building, ideally in a non-profit setting and/or dealing with development, social justice or human rights issues. You will demonstrate the ability to develop high performing teams, engage with media and commission cost effective advocacy research. You must have a good understanding of international development issues and in-depth knowledge of the institutions and decision makers we need to influence. Naturally you will have excellent relationship building and diplomatic skills. Highly analytical, you are a pragmatic tactician who is self-motivated and effective at persuading others. A high standard of English will be matched by a relevant second language.
