ICEM Communications Specialist

Background:

ICEM – International Centre for Environmental Management is an award-winning independent technical service centre that assists government, private sector and communities to define and implement policies for sustainable development. Established in 1999, ICEM has its regional headquarters in Hanoi and is staffed by full-time international and national technical and administrative personnel.

ICEM operates through a core of specialists in biodiversity conservation, climate change, water resources management, strategic environmental assessment, and environmental and social economics.

ICEM has been undertaking economic and sustainable development policy advisory work and analysis across Asia with a special focus on Mekong countries.

ICEM Communications Specialist

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Communicate ICEM’s core technical work (Climate Change, Integrated Assessment, Biodiversity and Water) as well as ICEM’s philosophy and approach to environmental management;
  • Regularly update the website, including posting news updates, staff profiles, project profiles, reports, materials, and maps;
  • Manage the ICEM publication program, including drafting and editing new ICEM briefs, working papers and reports;
  • Creative design of ICEM’s communication products including refining and creating templates and formatting reports and publications;
  • Support the technical team in preparing materials for developing new projects and grant opportunities;
  • Manage ICEM’s social media presence, including Twitter profile;
  • As needed, edit the content and finalize the layout of communication materials for workshops and other events;
  • Assist in maintaining ICEM’s data management and dissemination, including image library, map catalogue, and communication products.

Skills specification:

  • Excellent written and spoken English skills;
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas clearly and succinctly in writing and orally;
  • Ability to work closely within the ICEM team and with partners to acquire information in a timely manner;
  • Knowledge of regional institutions and organizations involved in environment and development;
  • Ability to follow technical arguments and expert language;?
  • Strong computer processing, layout and design skills, including familiarity with image and publications software;
  • Ability to manage websites, experience with Wordpress preferred;
  • Ability to produce outputs to a publishing standard.

 

Essential Requirements

  • University degree or higher, preferably in Communications. Degrees in Environment, Development, and related fields will also be considered;
  • A minimum of three years of professional experience in Communications;
  • Experience in environment and development work will also be valued; and
  • Willing to travel to project sites within the Asia Pacific region.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of, and passion for, environmental issues and development work is a strong asset;
  • Experience in journalism.
