Gender equality is considered a prerequisite for the human rights-based, socially equitable, and sustainable development of societies. The promotion of gender equality is, therefore, an important cross-cutting issue and quality feature of all areas of German development cooperation. Implementing BMZ’s policy on gender equality, GIZ promotes equal opportunities of women and men. GIZ’s Gender Strategy lays out the framework for realizing these commitments by promoting gender equality throughout the company and within the scope of our commissions for BMZ and other clients. In Vietnam, the Gender Experts play a crucial role in facilitating the implementation of gender-based approaches in our projects. GIZ Viet Nam is looking for a local qualified candidate to fill the following position:

Gender Officer

Duty station: Hanoi

Duration: 01.01.2018 – 31.12.2019

Main tasks:

  • Support GIZ Vietnams projects as a resource person for gender-related aspects (e.g. developing sector-specific approaches to integrate gender in the projects activities)

  • Advise project managers on gender-related requirements in the project management (such as gender markers in appraisal missions/offers, develop / advise on gender analyses for projects and terms of reference for consultants)

  • Support gender-specific aspects of commission management (e.g. identifying consultants,  monitoring, reporting and evaluation) in the projects

  • Identify gender-related bottlenecks and needs in GIZ Viet Nam on the portfolio-level and develop approaches to overcome them

Minimum requirements:

  • Master degree in social sciences, international studies, or a related field with a focus on gender

  • Minimum of 3 years of work experience in international development cooperation;

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in implementing gender-based approaches in international development cooperation projects;

  • Excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills

  • Good research and network management skills

  • Fluency and excellent analytical / writing skills in English and Vietnamese; German is an asset

  • Concrete experience with the implementation of gender-based approaches in Viet Nam is an asset

  • Prior knowledge and experience of working with/in GIZ is an asset
