The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) is the world’s largest network for animal welfare. For 25 years, WSPA has promoted the concept of animal welfare in regions of the world where there are few, if any, measures to protect animals. WSPA campaigns to convince governments and key decision makers to change practices and introduce new laws to protect or improve the welfare of animals.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title        :  Education Officer Vietnam

Starting Date         :  Mid June 2012

Work Location        : WSPA Vietnam Office – Hanoi Vietnam

Line Manager          : Education Programmes Manager– South and Southeast Asia Regional Office

Function Manager    : Education Programmes Manager– South and Southeast Asia Regional Office

Main Purpose of Job

- To facilitate all aspects of the First Concepts in Animal Welfare (FCAW) programme in Vietnam (primary responsibility).
- To facilitate activities of other programmes in Vietnam as appropriate.

DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Vietnam FCAW Programme

- Responsible of the day to day implementation of the FCAW programme
- Be point of contact for and provide regular updates to teachers and education authorities (HN DoET, MoET, UNESCO)
- Initiate relationship with Hanoi teacher training college in order to implement the FCAW programme
- Make all arrangements for teacher training workshops (in- and pre- service), including attendees, materials, venue and follow up.
- Conduct teacher training workshops (in- and pre- service).
- Lead in the formation of the ‘teacher ambassador’ network.
- Maintain stocks of printed resources and assist in production of new resources.
- Assist in the Monitoring & Evaluation process.
- Research Vietnamese education system and maintain up to date information.
- Attend or participate in relevant workshops and conferences.
- Assist Education Manager in any other relevant tasks such as translation.

Other Programmes

- Assist in production of resources for other programmes.
- Provide support to other departments where appropriate.

Other/General

- Provide regular updates and feedback to Manager and Headquarters as appropriate.
- Liaise with Media department where appropriate.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential requirements:

- Vietnamese national
- Degree;
- Experience in the education field, teaching or/and working on education projects
- Excellent organisational skills;
- Proven administrative skills;
- Experience of public speaking; or/and delivering workshops
- Good research and written skills;
- Experience of developing and maintaining institutional relationships;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills: ability to present and sell the organisation’s values and objectives
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint;
- Fluency in English (oral and written).

Desirable experience, qualifications and skills:

- Postgraduate degree in a related field;
- Experience of working on international projects;
- Experience of working in an office environment, preferably for an NGO (including internships);
- Interest in animal welfare;
