Data Management Coordinator

The University of North Carolina research team has been conducting research building capacity in northern Vietnam 15 years. We have been conducting a number of randomized control trials (RCTs). The UNC team has expertise with both behavioral and clinical research and has studied a variety of infectious diseases and comorbid conditions in men and women from general and key populations. The UNC-VN was also chosen to conduct  HPTN 083, a clinical trial to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the injectable agent, cabotegravir (CAB LA), for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) in HIV-uninfected cisgender men and transgender women who have sex with men (MSM and TGW). This is a double blind, two-arm randomized trial and will be implemented in 5 years. We are now seeking a talented, dedicated and committed individual to join our team in Vietnam to conduct a new and exciting research study. This study is conducted in a cooperation with the 198 Hospital and study site for participant recruitments based in Yen Hoa Health Clinic of Cau Giay Health District Center.

Position: 01 Data Management Coordinator, Based in Hanoi.
Report to: The UNC Project Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:

The incumbent of this position is responsible for setting up and managing data system of UNC research projects in Vietnam; assuring quality of data. S/he is responsible to discover efficient ways to organize, store and analyze data with attention to security and confidentiality. This position is also to ensure that information flows timely and securely to and from the organization as well as within.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create and enforce policies for effective data management of UNC research projects in Vietnam
  • Devise and implement efficient and secure procedures for data handling and analysis with attention to all technical aspects
  • Provide national securities data expertise and data management leadership to achieve sustainable quality of information needed by the UNC projects in Vietnam.
  • Formulate techniques for quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data
  • Support others in the daily use of data systems and ensure adherence to legal and organization’s standards
  • Assist with reports and data extraction when needed
  • Troubleshoot data-related problems and authorize maintenance or modifications
  • Develop Data quality reporting process with the goal of achieving the targets defined by the UNC research projects in Vietnam
  • Monitor data gathering, interviewing in order to effective conduct database system and process analysis.
  • Responsible for Data Fax quality control, response to QA/QC report
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned by the UNC Project Manager and UNC Project Director.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS

  • 5 years’ post-graduate experience in a database development and management role, in a research environment is preferable
  • Experience in developing monitoring and evaluation systems
  • Experience with one or more major database packages such as Access, CSPro, Dbase, Reflex  etc  
  • Experience in statistical analysis and familiarity with one or more major statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, and Stata
  • Ability to design and implement research database systems and support research teams to access and analyze data from these systems 
  • Ability to work independently and to proactively contribute to the progress of the team
  •  The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of databases and data analysis procedures
  • Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.)
  • Familiarity with modern database and information system technologies
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel, Access, Word etc.)
  • An analytical mindset with problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated;
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • BSc/BA in computer science or statistic or relevant field. MSc/ MA is preferable.
