HealthBridge Foundation of Canada is looking for a Country Director in Vietnam who has a strong technical background in health, understands strategic organizational development, and has a passion to make a difference.

Background

HealthBridge Foundation of Canada works with partners worldwide to improve health and health equity through research, policy and action. We are an international non-profit development organization that aims to improve health among the most vulnerable, particularly women and children. HealthBridge Vietnam is a core part of HealthBridge with the same overarching mission, operating in Vietnam. Since 1995, HealthBridge Vietnam has developed and implemented programs to strengthen health systems and improve health and health equity in the country. The Country Director will carry out the dual role of implementing projects in Vietnam and providing leadership to the organization.

Qualifications

The Country Director must have the ability to provide leadership for the development and strengthening of the organization, and to take responsibility for the development, funding, and implementation of projects in priority health areas in keeping with the mission of HealthBridge. In addition, the Country Director must have:

  • Substantial working knowledge of priority “health in development” issues, and of the systems for primary health care service delivery in Vietnam;
  • At least five to ten years’ experience and demonstrated skills in project/program development and management (from conception, through development and implementation, to completion);
  • Exceptional organizational skills and experience necessary to plan and implement projects, workshops, and meetings;
  • Demonstrated experience performing managerial and administrative tasks;
  • General knowledge of HealthBridge’s major programme areas, including nutrition, gender, reproductive, maternal and child health, tobacco control, and NCDs, and should have indepth knowledge and experience in at least one of these areas;
  • The ability to work fluently in Vietnamese and English;
  • A university degree in a health related discipline (MSc, MA, PhD, or MD), combined with at least five years’ experience in international health and development.

Responsibilities

Reporting directly to the Executive Director the Country Director’s overall responsibility will be to:

  • Ensure strategic program development in keeping with HealthBridge’s mission;
  • Oversee sound management and administration of the HealthBridge Vietnam programs and office;
  • Plan, organize, direct, and manage the operations of the organization within its corporate by-laws and policies;
  • Assume overall responsibility for programme management and for successful implementation of projects.

Please note, this position is based in Vietnam at our country office in Hanoi. The successful candidate must be located, or be willing to relocate to, Hanoi, and must be eligible to work in Vietnam.
