I.            Background

SNV (www.snvworld.org) is a not-for-profit international development organization. In Vietnam, SNV manages the Inclusive Business Accelerator program (IBA, https://iba.ventures/). Inclusive business is a strategic, innovative, commercially- viable business initiative, which unlocks entrepreneurial opportunities for low-income markets to engage in the value chain. Inclusive business creates shared value for the businesses, low-income markets and the environment.

IBA is the first one-stop shop in Vietnam for various services needed by businesses which include low-income groups in their operations. We use innovative acceleration models to make the businesses investor-ready. Our scope of services, including Market Intelligence & Opportunity Identification, Business Design & Readiness, Investor – Investee Match making, Impact Measurements & Scalability.

SNV Vietnam is seeking qualified and experience consultant(s) to support IBA company to develop a detailed project proposal for fund raising purpose to achieve Aquaculture Sustainable Certification (ASC) for clam famers in Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces.

II.          Service description

Under the supervision of IBA Program Manager, the consultant(s) will be required to:

  • Conduct a baseline study to assess current business and production conditions of IBA company and the needs for obtaining ASC certification for clam farmers in Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces;
  • Develop a detailed Project Proposal/Business Plan to request for financial funding from provincial authorities to support IBA company to achieve
  • Aquaculture Sustainable Certification (ASC) for clam famers in Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces.

III. Expected outputs and deliverables

The consultant(s) needs to deliver the following outputs:

1. Baseline study report including the following information:

  • Business overview including business profile, product or service
  • Company organization and management structure including a description of the skills and experience of the entrepreneurs, management structure and franchise information
  • Competitors and Industry analysis, market analysis (included but not limited to clam production in Vietnam: situation, productivity, variety, challenges and opportunities)
  • Production, Supply chain management and Sales (including challenges for the company business vision)
  • Expected Business, Social and Environmental impacts of the project
  • Financial statements and projections
  • Legal and regulatory environment
  • SWOT analysis and risk/reward assessment

The report will be used as inputs for the Project Proposal/Business Plan.

2. A comprehensive Project Proposal/Business Plan including financial analysis to support IBA company to obtain funding from provincial authorities to achieve Aquaculture Sustainable Certification (ASC) for clam famers in Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces and sent by email to SNV in Vietnamese. The business plan should seek answers to the following questions:

  • Describe the existing market, market situation, the company’s goals and strategy/ vision, target market and consumption trends
  • Overview on the macro environment, regulations, competition (sourcing and retailing), challenges for clam production and business growth (both farm level and company level) in domestic and export market(for the company’s Vietnam factory), quality/ certification regulations and  preference
  • Specific suggestions for product potential, cooperation with farmers and risks with regards to the development of a clam value chain for ASC training/ certification  in the selected production area (Nam Dinh, Thai Binh)
  • Overview existing clam production and supplying to market, domestic competition including knowledge and correct handling of competitors in domestic as well as potential external markets
  • The check lists for the company’s clam value chain development and ASC certification for clam farmers in Nam Dinh and Thai Binh provinces including technical, financial and time plan
  • Other recommendations and risk mitigation suggestion

III.        Qualifications, skills and experience required:

Required expertise and qualification for internal and external auditors

  • University degree in Agriculture, Business Administration or other related fields; relevant experiences and expertise related to shellfish and clam are appreciated
  • At least 5 years of experience in conducting due diligence, making business strategy and business proposal development;
  • Excellent analytical, planning and reporting skills;
  • Experience in planning and executing market research studies;
    • Familiar with PPP project approach and requirements for funding applications;
    • Former experience with ASC certification will be an advantage

IV. How to apply:
