Community Liaison Officer

The British Embassy in Hanoi is part of a world-wide network of 230 Posts, representing British political, economic, trade and consular interests overseas. We are currently looking to recruit a part-time Community Liaison Officer (CLO) to join team in Hanoi.

Main Duties

  • Gather information for families, partners and officers, including on partner employment, education; recreational facilities, social matters.
  • Welcome all officers and help them integrate quickly and effectively into life in Vietnam, being a source of referral and support where problems and difficulties arise.
  • Be an advocate for UK based staff and dependants in addressing issues of importance with
  • Post authorities, including as their representative on the Post Management Committee, the
  • Crisis Planning Committee and as the chief link between Post and Diplomatic Service Family Association in London.
  • To communicate effectively on community and social matters within the Post to both UK-based and local staff, helping create an effective environment.
  • To manage the Post Welcome Pack, CLO homepage on relevant Foreign Commonwealth Office sites; to provide in-put on co-ordinating Post report and fact sheet.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Understanding of issues arising from overseas relocation and of living in a foreign country
  • Sound advocacy and influencing skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Some knowledge of Vietnamese would be an advantage
  • Good IT skills, including MS Office and Excel worksheet
  • Desirable: Counselling/mediation skills or experience
