Communications, Outreach, and Knowledge Management Specialist

Abt Associates, a global leader in technical assistance, program implementation and international development, seeks a qualified Communications, Outreach, and Knowledge Management Specialist for an upcoming USAID/Regional Development Mission for Asia-funded clean energy program to support the ASEAN countries of Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and Burma. The program shall increase investment in clean energy and reduce avoidable greenhouse gas emissions in each country by gearing current and future investment in power development towards efficient, environmentally-friendly renewable energy. 

The Communications, Outreach, and Knowledge Management Specialist will be based in the project’s central office in Bangkok, Thailand. This position is contingent on USAID funding and contract award to Abt Associates. Local candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver appropriate training programs, workshops, forums, and other public outreach campaigns to further renewable energy adoption and raise awareness of project interventions;
  • Promote U.S. government assistance in the energy sector in the ASEAN region;
  • Develop and maintain a project website and social media platforms to promote internet-based knowledge sharing for the project and other clean energy activities in the ASEAN region;
  • Assist in organizing an annual coordination forum comprising U.S. government agencies and other related stakeholders in the ASEAN clean energy sector;
  • Showcase project’s development impact in the energy sector by drafting success stories, snapshots, before and after pieces, and other communications materials to share project activities with the energy sector;
  • Draw on knowledge of web-based tools and effective knowledge sharing mechanisms to promote project  and other clean energy activities;
  • Disseminate regular updates of USAID’s efforts in the clean energy sector to interested stakeholders/media; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, environmental sciences, journalism, marketing, or related discipline;
  • Minimum of five years of experience providing support to donor-funded – preferably USAID funded – projects in the energy sector;
  • Experience developing communications plans for a variety of stakeholder groups, creating messaging and materials for community action, and implementing communications strategies highly preferred;
  • Experience working with both traditional and new media sources, including leveraging social and digital media technologies to advance environmental goals;
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and Thai are required; and
  • Experience working with climate change adaptation, emissions mitigation, or related activities preferred.
