Communications and Media Coordinator

Culture Identity and Resource Use Management (CIRUM) is a local environmental NGO working with forest living and forest-margin living ethnic minority people in mountainous areas of Vietnam. We work with them because they are the most deprived and excluded people in Vietnamese society. All of our interventions aim to solve forest and land conflicts, and secure ethnic minority people’s rights to access, control and benefit from their forest and land resources in a way that is sustainable and in line with their own values, needs, knowledge and customs.

CIRUM has been working successfully at grassroots level for many years to assist the development of community based organisations, and the development and implementation of models of sustainable forest management and land use and rights; provide services to forest peoples to build their capacity to lobby and advocate on their own behalf and assist communes and districts in land allocation programmes. We have been working in North Vietnam, and now are moving more of our focus into Central Vietnam and into the Central Highlands region.

An important part of CIRUM’s work is communicating our message and the voice of ethnic minority people to the outside world – media, donors and government, civil society and relevant policy makers. We have been doing this through a variety of media, including the web, publications, video and other digital media. Please see www.cirum.org and www.land.net.vn for our websites.

As the volume of communications has grown so has the need for staff dedicated to this area. Although this is a new position, many of the duties are currently being shared amongst field and office staff. Initially, the position is for a two years, but there is the likelihood of extending. The position is subject to the statutory probationary period of two months. Members of Vietnamese ethnic minorities are encouraged to apply
