09 Field Sampling Specialists and 01 Team Leader
Project "Environmental remediation of dioxin contaminated hotspots in Vietnam" is seeking for 09 field sampling specialists and 01 Team leader.
Viet Nam has experienced the worst dioxin pollution in the World. Large quantity of herbicides, which was contaminated with dioxin, was used in the part of the armed conflict over the period of 1961-1971. The soil dioxin concentration in sprayed areas has declined to background level; however, a few sites at the airbases where the pesticides were stored and/or handled are still highly contaminated. To date, three sites used as the military base, namely Bien Hoa Airbase, Da Nang Airbase and Phu Cat Airbase, have identified dioxin ‘hotspots’ which contamination level exceeds national dioxin limits.
Global Environment Facility (GEF) approved a development project to remediate the contaminated hotspots in Viet Nam. The objective of the project is to minimise the disruption of ecosystems and health risks for people from environmental releases of dioxins (TCDD) contaminated hotspots. The project aims to achieve the dioxin core hotspots being contained or remediated so that the environmental and health risks are eliminated. The project also extends its scope to future land use planning for three dioxin hotspots and national level capacity strengthening on dioxin issues.
Previous surveys have identified and mapped the areas and depth of the contaminated soil to be contained/remediated. A few more locations have also recovered as new ‘hotspots’ where comprehensive site assessment is required to demarcate the contamination boundary (both horizontal and vertical). Southwest end of Bien Hoa Airbase and former storage area in Phu Cat Airbase are the extended hotspot locations.
The objectives of the field sampling mission is to demarcate the boundary of newly identified dioxin contaminated sites and quantify the area and volume of soil requiring further treatment measures.
To fulfill the aforementioned objective, a total of ten (10) short-term consultants will be engaged, which include one (01) Team leader and nine (9) sampling specialists.
