Wash Coordinator

Save the Children in Vietnam (SC) works to promote every child’s rights to survival, protection, participation and development as set forth in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.  The current programme focuses on the following core sectors: Health and Nutrition; HIV/AIDS prevention; Care and support; Education; Child protection; Child-focused emergency preparedness and response; Child rights agenda, including Civil society development, Economic opportunities, Child poverty Research, and Advocacy for child-friendly development policy and practice.

Save the Children is responding to the needs of communities affected by Typhoon Ketsana in Vietnam. We’re already responding by distributing urgently needed food and essential household and hygiene items.  We will soon be supporting communities to recover with livelihoods activities for families, improving access to healthcare and nutrition, providing hygiene education, improving access to water/sanitation and helping to ensure children are able to continue their education.  Our activities will transition into our ongoing programmes in these areas.

WASH COORDINATOR – Emergency Programme
Based in Quang Tri

Save the Children is looking for a qualified candidate for the position of WASH COORDINATOR for Emergency Programme. The successful candidate will be joining the project team based in Quang Tri.

Job Purpose
The WASH Coordinator will be the technical lead on the WASH components of the programme.  They will ensure programme quality across the technical sectors through programme design, monitoring, training of field staff and support to programme implementation.  The post holder will be responsible for liaising with relevant provincial and district stakeholders, and capacity building of partner staff. 

Key Competencies:
- University degree or equivalent in civil engineering, environmental engineering or another relevant subject.
- A minimum of 3 years experience in emergency WASH project design and implementation, preferably in international organizations, INGOs and/or bilateral organization.   This will include experience of leading on construction of community water and sanitation infrastructure.
- Excellent facilitation and training skills and experience of capacity building project and partner staff.
- Good interpersonal skills with ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Ability to work independently under minimum supervision within a team.
- Ability to organise and coordinate complex activities within interrelated schedules and timelines, and to demonstrate sound judgment, task orientation and teamwork.
- Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
- High team work spirit.
- Proven ability to work under pressure and deliver results on time.
- Good communications and liaison skills.
- Commitment to Convention of the Right of the Child.
- Political awareness.
- Computer literacy.
- Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods even during the weekend if needed.
