Translator / Interpreter/ Policy Support Officer

Duties and responsibilities
- Provide accurate translation and interpretation services for the Ambassador and Embassy staff, including at high-level meetings;
- Undertake research for the Ambassador and other Embassy staff on trade, political, security and economic interests;
- Maintain effective communication networks with a wide range of local government, business and non-government contacts; and facilitate meetings and other contact for Embassy staff when required;
- Assist the Embassy to develop programmes for, and escort, high-level and other New Zealand visitors to Viet Nam;
- Coordinate the Embassy’s information and public affairs programme;
- Provide occasional consular and visa assistance when required.

Required qualifications and qualities
- A relevant tertiary qualification and at least five years of directly relevant work experience;
- High degree of fluency in spoken and written English and Vietnamese, with proven strong translation and interpretation experience;
- A sound knowledge of Vietnamese political and economic systems and processes, and of political, cultural and diplomatic protocols;
- Strong research and analytical skills, with an emphasis on accuracy;
- Knowledge of New Zealand society and culture desirable;
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively as a member of a small team;
- High standards of honesty, integrity and professionalism as required under the Embassy’s Code of Conduct.
