Ophthalmologist Specialist

ORBIS International is a leading International development, humanitarian organization, which works in developing countries to save sight and transform lives through capacity building activities for ophthalmologists, and other eye care professionals, public health education, and improved access to eye care. ORBIS is seeking a qualified Vietnamese national for the post “ Staff Ophthalmologist” based at the ORBIS South East Asia Regional Office in Hanoi with frequent travels to project sites in Vietnam and selected South East Asia Countries to accomplish the following main duties.

JOB SUMMARY: 
The incumbent facilitates ORBIS’ eye care training and direct patient care services in Vietnam and selected South East Asia countries, ensuring that appropriate ophthalmic interventions are in place and carried out effectively in accordance with ORBIS’ strategic program direction and priorities.

1. Ensure that all direct eye care services offered by ORBIS in South East Asia are delivered safely and conform to the standards set by ORBIS and by Joint Commission International and Preferred Practice Pattern of AAO.
2. Manage and maintain medical records and patient database, and perform statistical analysis.
3. Conduct surgical case reviews as assigned by Regional Manager and Senior Adviser (Ophthalmology), Asia.
4. In conjunction with program & partner liaison staff, ensure that the needs for ophthalmic interventions are adequately addressed, planned, and implemented in the programs, and that plans are in place to integrate ORBIS’ global and strategic resources (FEH, Cybersight, Hospital-based programs, Fellowships) into a sustained program effort aimed at patient services and results.
5. Support and facilitate volunteer faculty, ensuring that they are engaged in the best way possible for sustained training and development of eye care professionals at all levels. 
6. Provide professional input in the development of concept papers and proposals that are market- driven and in line with ORBIS’ program strategic direction.
7. Participate in discussions with partner hospitals in South East Asia and provide input for long term sustained impact on reduction in blindness.
8. Track, measure, evaluate, and report on the outcomes and impact of programs.
9. Promote the mission of ORBIS, actively participate in public relations activities and fundraising events, and represent ORBIS at professional forums. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Medical degree from a recognized university and Ophthalmology Residency Certificate
- Medical and surgical ophthalmology experience
- Experience in conducting ophthalmic education program; Public health training preferred
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and diplomacy skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Strong teaching and training skills, with ability to apply adult and participatory learning methods
- High professional integrity
- Strong computer skills and good working knowledge of MS office applications
- Oral and written fluency in English and Vietnamese
