English Interpreter and Translator
Background of the AKIZ project:
Vietnam has the large number of about 200 registered industrial zones (IZ), without sustainable wastewater concepts.
A German – Vietnamese research project is proposed for the IZ Tra Noc, Can Tho City, in the Mekong-Delta.
Accomplishing the investment for the central sewage treatment plant of the IZ, the Research project shall develop an integrated wastewater concept for tropical IZ (AKIZ = Integriertes Abwasserkonzept für Industriezonen), to secure the efficiency and sustainable functioning of the whole system including all its components.
Taking representative factories within the IZ Tra Noc, near-to-source measures shall be
demonstrated, like the pre-treatment of wastewaters (e.g. from a pesticide production to remove toxic substances), like the generation of energy from wastewaters (e.g. for a fish processing company), and like the recuperation of valuable substances and water-reuse from wastewaters (e.g. for a brewery).
Pilot plants in technical scale, mounted in containers, shall be used to adapt and verify High-Tech solutions to the local conditions. Additionally, appropriate technologies and concepts for the disposal respectively for the utilisation of different sewage-sludges have to be elaborated, and the links with solid waste and contaminated sites management have to be analysed and considered.
Based on this and the pilot test plant results, an overall Management Concept will be elaborated for AKIZ, which shall cover the technical as well as the economic, financial functions of all facilities and organisations within the IZ.
The sustainable implementation of AKIZ shall be supported through capacity building with stakeholders and local partners.

Job title: English Interpreter and Translator

Job purpose:
The English Interpreter and Translator will support IEEM as coordinating institution in implementing project activities in Vietnam with main focus on AKIZ in Can Tho Industrial Zones. In particular, the English Interpreter and Translator will support IEEM in translating documents and interpreting in communications for international experts during field visits, meetings or workshops from Vietnamese into English and vice versa.
Main responsibilities:
Communicate with other institutions co-operating with IEEM, mainly for the AKIZ project
Organize and facilitate meetings, training courses and workshops
Assist IEEM in translating project documents as well as interpreting in daily communication and meetings in Can Tho and frequently in neighbour provinces and HCMC
Qualifications and experience required:
Fluent spoken and written English
Computer literacy
Skills and experience considered a significant advantage:
Experience in the field of environmental Engineering
Key details about the post:
The English Interpreter and Translator will work under the guidance of IEEM, in particular under the local AKIZ co-ordinator in Vietnam. The position is proposed as a part time position, based on the needs of the project. Working time and place will be arranged flexible.
